SDC Cancels Activities in Beijing

04 June 2020

Due to the current advice from the Danish authorities to avoid unnecessary travels to China until August 31, and uncertainties whether SDC’s partner university in Beijing, UCAS, will get permission from the Chinese authorities to open campus for international students and teachers, all physical activities in Beijing are cancelled. This also include teaching activities, which will be conducted online for the rest of 2020.

SDC’s Executive Director, Morten Laugesen, finds the decision difficult but necessary:

‘It is unfortunate, but UCAS is very uncertain whether they will get permission from the Chinese authorities to open campus for foreign students and teachers in 2020. Given the great uncertainty that currently still exists, SDC reached the conclusion in collaboration with UCAS’ presidency and the Danish SDC board, not to plan any activities with physical presence at UCAS’ campus for the rest of 2020. This means that online teaching will continue for all SDC students throughout the whole autumn semester.’

The decision means that students and teachers finally can plan their activities for the rest of 2020.

‘In the spring, SDC’s teachers managed to carry out exceptional digital teaching under the strange circumstances of the pandemic, and I am confident that they will sustain the high quality of their work. We are very thankful for their hard work and contribution to SDC,’ Morten Laugesen says.
